Movie Recommendations
I only add a movie to this list if I think I’d like to watch it more than once.
If the movie has five stars, then I probably own the DVD and enjoy watching it once a year or so.
RECENT UPDATES:
Aug 5, 2008 - Added Away from Her - leisurely and sad, but beautiful characterization and a reminder that there will be a point in your life when you look back and ask, “How good a husband was I?”
May 25, 2008 - Added Lars and the Real Girl - a gentle reminder of how important it can be to let people have their illusions.
May 13, 2008 - Added The Namesake.
Apr 20, 2008 - Added The Kite Runner (thanks to Joe Duarte for the recommendation).

Anyone have additional movie recommendations, based on this outpouring of my soul?

Perhaps The Shop Around The Corner.
Someday you should try The Razor’s Edge (with Tyrone Power), Babette’s Feast, Blade Runner, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Kundun, The Last Emperor, Vertigo, and maybe Lust for Life and To Catch a Thief.
Shakespeare In Love
Billy Elliot
Love’s Labour’s Lost
V for Vendetta
Real Genius
Life is Beautiful
A Fish Called Wanda
The Pianist
The Princess Bride
Well, Kirez beat me to several, including Shakespeare in Love...
His Girl Friday (original version)
Dead Poet’s Society
The Lion in Winter (first version)
Robin and Marian
Witness
The African Queen
To Kill a Mockingbird
Fame
The Commitments
You like morally redeeming/inquisitive films. You might like Big Fish, or Harold and Maude.
http://www.movielens.org is a neat little site run by a research group at University of Minnesota. You feed in your movie rankings, and it spits out recommendations based on that data compared to all other users’ rankings.
The Saint
Also - There Will Be Blood
I am fascinated with M. Night. Much of his stuff is very altruistic, just realized that actually. The Village was amazing. Unbreakable. Curious to see what the new one will be like.
