I'm not much of a McCain man, but I thought his sense of humor in this clip was both appropriate and hilarious. In fact, it sounds like he handled the whole exchange with just the kind of grace that befits a man in his 70s. Kudos to McCain.
Despite my strong spiritual inclinations, or perhaps because of them, I greatly admire men who know how to don the mask of anger just long enough to take care of urgent business. In that respect, these two men earn my true admiration: Shortly before landing, Bob Hayden and a flight attendant had agreed on a signal: When she waved the plastic handcuffs, he would discreetly leave his seat and restrain an unruly passenger who had frightened some of the 150 people on board a Minneapolis-to-Boston flight Saturday night with erratic behavior. Hayden, a 65-year-old former police commander, had enlisted a gray-haired gentleman sitting ...
Last week, a writer from Nerve.com invited me, as owner of the Atlasphere, to participate in a column titled "Sex Advice from Objectivists." It's part of their regular "Sex Advice from..." series, including advice from tribute bands, Santas, and poker players. Get the picture? As I read through the questions I would be answering, I remember thinking that many Objectivists are just about the last people I'd want to be asking questions like this. Anyway, they published the Objectivist-themed column today, so go judge for yourself. Overall, I think they actually did a decent job of picking writers. Below are my own answers, preserved ...
Somebody uploaded this as a pic at the Atlasphere. We generally only allow members to upload actual photos of themselves, so I had to remove it -- but I certainly got a chuckle out of it.
I have found the idea for my next business: (Click to see the full-size version)
I'm still a PC user, but it's getting harder and harder to admit that with a straight face. PS. Anybody else think of Will when they watch the Mac guy?
Kathy tells me she's seen this before, but I sure got a chuckle out of reading it. The French government recently announced a raise in its terror alert level from Run to Hide. The normal level is General Arrogance, and the only two higher levels in France are Surrender and Collaborate. The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralysing the country's military capability. It's not only the French that are on a heightened level of alert: Italy has increased the alert level from Shout Loudly and Excitedly to Elaborate Military Posturing. Two more levels remain, Ineffective Combat ...
Ooooooh. This telemarketing counterscript is positively LOVELY. I can't wait for my first caller.... (Thanks, Diana!)
Today's Day by Day cartoon is the funniest ever. This semester I've been working as a TA for a massive Introductory Psychology class at UNM. There are 700+ students, mostly freshmen. The work is pretty tedious, but the real fun comes when it's my turn to spend a week answering student e-mail. Some of the messages are just unreal. (...But at least they can run fast!) UPDATE: God, I spoke too soon. How could I have missed Wednesday's toon?
