Norah Jones Live

March 13, 2003  ·  Category: Music, Reviews

I’ve been a huge fan of Norah Jones’s Come Away with Me CD ever since Jim Raines (who was placing a bulk order for his friends) recommended it to me in May of last year. ...Here’s what I wrote him after hearing the first song on her CD at Amazon:

Wow, what a hot, hot voice. ...I’ll take one. Thanks!

(One year and five grammies later, my opinion hasn’t changed.)

This afternoon, my copy of her DVD Norah Jones: Live in New Orleans arrived, and I’m fairly impressed. It’s not your standard bells-and-whistles performance; rather, it’s a lot like her CD itself: subdued, tasteful, and filled with Norah’s smoky shyness from start to finish.

I’ve read that she doesn’t consider herself “a shy person,” but you’d never know it from her stage presence. Always polite, she is clearly new to the large stage, and the net result is an endearing glimpse of a young, remarkably talented singer and pianist.

“Smoky Shyness” — Very well said.

I feel silly... I hadn’t stopped by your journal in over a week, so today’s the first time I’m seeing this entry on Norah Jones... and by coincidence, over the last week I’ve downloaded about 6 of her songs.
