I think it was shortly after I had first read Atlas Shrugged, and I wasn't as open-minded as I am today. Something about the novel turned me off, even though I know many people who loved it. Pirsig? It was given to me as a gift way before i'd ever heard of Ayn Rand and Objectivism by a friend who knew there was something deeper about keeping your motorcycle in good repair even than survival. Something prideful and not unwholesome but genuine and sublime. It's less about struggle and more about rightness in thought and action. I'm not a Buddhist. I am not a mystic. I struggle with ideas and Objectivism, among other things makes my struggle more fruitful. Have you ever read Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig?
