San Diego Mayor Reverses Position on Gay Marriage
Andrew Schwartz e-mailed me a link to this video, with the subject line “Integrity.” I really couldn’t agree more.

Ah, bless him. I think it’s integrity + principles we dig that makes us approve, though. Our cockles aren’t so warmed by folks who tighten their integrity in the direction of, say, Christian conservatism.
Incidentally, thank goodness so many Christian conservatives in America lack integrity!
Austen,
Your first comment (about principles we dig) seems to imply that a Christian could — with equal integrity — embrace policies that either increase or decrease the extent to which homosexuals are treated equally before the law.
And I just don’t think that’s true, for whatever it’s worth.
I agree with Nathaniel Branden that integrity is more than just consistency between belief and action. It also requires consistency between experience and belief.
I do not believe one can witness the humanity, true love, parenting skills, moralness, and hard work of homosexuals in this day and age — and still believe they should be denied the truly human right to marry the one they love.
Certainly, any of us are more happy to see people agreeing with us than disagreeing. But your initial remark seems to sort of cynically dismiss the real integrity that was involved, here.
