Ken Wilber Shines
Marshall has been dragging me, kicking and screaming, into the Integral world of Ken Wilber.
Kicking and screaming, because I’ve felt for some time that Ken Wilber’s world is one where people wax extensively about theory, and neglect the practice.
Gradually, however, I’m seeing that this is simply not true.
Case in point: Wilber recently published a humorous, scathing, light, profound blog post called What We Are, That We See. And a follow-up called What is the Real Meaning of This?
I just finished reading them both, in their entirety, and I’m filled with a sense of hope and inspiration. I think there’s a chance that Ken Wilber might be able to actually do something profound with his Integral Institute. He might be able to take some of the most enlightened thinking of all time, and fuse it with real practice in a way that actually advances the cause of mankind.
I’m not normally one to get up and shout about “the cause of mankind” — but when I see something this genuine and this inspiring....
Not everyone will be as inspired as I was by the two blog posts I link to above. But for me, as a psychologist at heart, this is one of the best introductions to Ken Wilber that I could have: to see him handling dissent, responding to his critics, challenging his own followers to live more fully and authentically.
That makes sense to me. And it makes me feel at home in Wilber’s intellectual universe in a way that no intellectual arguments could ever do. And so, my own opinion of Ken Wilber just shot through the roof.
That’s all for now. Back to work. Hope to have a post one day soon that describes the project I’m working on and why it’s so central to my life right now.

It certainly challenged me.
Good blog. I’ve always thought that the best ideas of Objectivism would be right at home with the best ideas of Buddhism. Bully to you for braving the path.
Curious thing. Normally I would be grabbing your post here for an item in Blogmandu, but the Roundups there are on hiatus while I am complaining about Wilber. Meantime, a Buddhist online pal has written a post, at the same time as yours, revealing himself as being Objectivist, that you are likely to appreciate: “A Wonderful Wilber Post,” by Jay Andrew Allen in his Pagan Bodhisattva blog.
Who the heck is this amazing “Marshall” guy?
Well, whoever he is, he sounds like a total genius - the full package really. From your posting I can tell that he’s smart, aware, funny, handsome...awe inspiring even. I sure would like to meet him. Boy, if I were a beautiful girl, I’d even love to date him.
