In my mind I pictured Dagny to look more like Calista Flockhart - for the lack of a better person to describe the image. Dagny never seems to be particularly beautiful to me until we delve further into her personality. I believe she is described as very plain, very thin, with thin lips, and beautiful legs. The trick would be finding someone who looked like that who could give her character the depth it needed. I like the idea of Jodie Foster playing her - that is much more the person Rand paints. Definitely NOT Angelina Jolie - I couldn't buy her in the role.

I honestly have a hard time with the John Galt image. When I see the kid that plays Teddy on the new 90210, I think I might get a flash of Galt. I do believe he needs to have the golden boy thing going on, but Rand paints him in such a light, that it is nearly impossible to come up with a complete image.

Kelsey Grammar is EXACTLY how I pictured James Taggart! Wow - good call!

Francisco is a definitely a Clark Gable type - I could see Brad Pitt doing a better job with that role than of Galt.

Hank Reardon is another hard one. I saw him as a bit older, or at least more weary. Daniel Day-Lewis might be a nice choice. Leonardo DiCaprio might do a good job with the role.

The best cast for the movie would be Julia Roberts for Dagny, Jude Law as Galt, Daniel Day-Lewis / George Clooney for Hank and Johnny Depp for D'Antonia.

90% of the characters in this book need to be No-Names. This is one of the strongest ideological novels I have ever read. The Hollywood crowd carries to much baggage to make a decent movie.

Bradjolina is a joke to everyone but Hollywood.

I think Angelina is a great choice for Dagny! Brad I could see for either Hank or John. I want people who would never read the book to see the movie and Brangelina can make that happen. And to people who dont think the book is relevant anymore - it is selling better now than ever before which is amazing for a book thats over 50 years old, but completey understandable in our current economic and political atmosphere. Cant wait to see it!

How about Kate Winslett for Dagny? She's a goddess, of sorts.

Her's an obscure suggestion: Dean Cameron as Hank Rearden. I know he's only known for comedies and it's been a long time since he's been in anything, but I've seen him do serious theater (he did a play here in Minneapolis) and his depth as an actor is astonishing. Plus, he's a very strong Libertarian. Remember the metal cards with the Bill of Rights? securityedition.com That's his invention.

Anyway, that's my vote for Hank. But it looks as this will never get made. I haven't heard anything about this for a long, long while.

I know this won't go very far, but the idea Angelina Jolie as Dagny Taggart has to be the worst idea I have ever heard for any character in any movie ever!

I am sorry to seem emotional, but it seems like the people putting this piece together doesn't care about Ayn Rand at all, or the people who believe in her work. Have you attempted to make any link between the life of Angelina Jolie with Dagny Taggart or Ayn Rand? Have You? God I wish she was here to see this, I wish she was here to speak up for herself as much as Dagny Taggart wished Nat Taggart was around to see his railroad being destroyed. This is a complete insolent mockery of her work. Of all the actresses you could have picked, you could have picked a woman that wasn't even caucasian and I would less affended. Do you think Dagny Taggart had time to play around the world adopting random children, posing in the spotlight and masquerading as if she were a superstar? Please god make them change this!

I guess its ok though, the idea of Atlas Shrugged will live on and I could see someone remaking it in 20/25 years to fix all the mistakes that these people will and are making!

I meant matt damon as eddie willars. plus not that this is the forum for it, but i always thought that dagny was portrayed as one of the few women who is truly comfortable with her femininity.

I think they would both fit my images of the dagny and john(and rumored to both be huge fans of Ayn Rand. I would like to throw daniel craig out there for hank, and matt(the leftist) for eddie willars, kelsey grammer as jim taggart.
