Life Update
Several friends have chided me for letting my journal go in recent months…. Thanks for the encouragement. I’m back!
Here’s a quick “life update” for anyone who’s interested:
- Effective at the end of this semester, I’ve left graduate school in order to focus full-time on my collaborations with my wife’s company, Zoom Strategies. There is a chance I’ll return to grad school in a few years to finish my dissertation, but right now I’m still in-between my masters thesis and comprehensive exams, so this is actually the perfect place to take a break.
- As part of my work with Zoom Strategies, I’ve been re-familiarizing myself with the Monopolize Your Marketplace system, as summarized by Rich Harshaw in his new book Monpolize Your Marketplace. I recommend this book HIGHLY for anyone interested in maximizing the performance of their business. Essentially, it’s marketing treated as a science (similar to how Objectivism is philosophy treated as a science).
- One of our major new endeavors at Zoom Strategies is a new company that we hope will revolutionize the way that single professionals find one another for meaningful romantic relationships. It’s not an online dating service, but the web site will be a central part of how the company does business. I’ll post more on this later, when the site is ready for launch. I’ve been working on it full-time for three weeks now, and I’m very excited about our progress so far.
- Ever since I decided to take a leave from grad school, I’ve been waking up in the morning feeling eager to start my day, and excited to do my work with Zoom Strategies. In other words, this has been a very good decision! I’m grateful to Kathy, Dave, and Rich (the Zoom team) for making this opportunity possible.
- One of our recent projects was launching a new web site for Figaro Systems, which makes seat-back titling systems for world-class opera houses. This was a fun site to build, and the feedback they’ve been getting on it, from others in the industry, is very encouraging.
- I’m continuing to love FireFox more and more, every day. If you’re still using IE, now’s the time to make the switch. It’s a far superior web browser: faster, cleaner, more flexible, and more secure.
So that’s a quick update. I’ve got lots more to share, and hope to have time to write more entries soon. Stay tuned….
