Dissent About A-Bombing Japan

December 3, 2004  ·  Category: Intellectual, Politics

I’m not much of a history buff, and have never been that impressed by claims that America should not have dropped atomic bombs on Japan in WWII. But I found this interview with Leo Szilard from 1960 by U.S. News & World Report to be rather thought-provoking. I was intrigued by his thoughtfulness, his lack of venom, and his inside role in the development of the bomb.

I became interested in the subject this afternoon while listening to Rush’s song “The Manhattan Project,” and I discovered the interview via Gene Dannen‘s web site for Leo Szillard, and particularly the page devoted to the atomic bomb decision.
