Consulting Design Work

July 9, 2004 · Filed under: Web Development

One project keeping me busy lately is designing advertisements for a digital version of a major magazine.

Due to their comparatively low cost, digital editions have become the holy grail of the magazine publishing industry in recent years.

This particular campaign, being conducted by one digital delivery specialist, is part of an experimental run for these fellas and will be spread across a broad range of Google and Overture PPC ads.

TOC regular Don Hauptman is the lead creative on the project and wrote all the copy, and Claudia Levine rounds out our team of consultants for the project, as writer and pay-per-click advertising specialist.

One fun part of this project was working with all the babe photos — especially these two pages designed around the popular Britney Spears (after Marilyn Monroe) cover, and this other page designed around, well, everybody.

The skyscraper advertisement at right, featuring Carmen Electra, ended up on the scrap heap for, er, reasons of raceyness.

Ice cream, anyone?

Nice job, Joshua. I would add that for those interested in the “published web format” (alternative to PDF) approach, also see a new site that combines the “visual” approach with the HTML article approach … http://edtech.texterity.com. You can sign in here free and see 3 different magazines.

At http://www.texterity.com site you’ll also have access to other free digital magazines, including SmartMoney, and more ‘niche’ magazines such as Technology & Learning, Farm Journal, etc.
