Musician John Mayer

Kathy and I are heading to North Carolina for the weekend, to visit Chris Johnson and Maria Panozzo. Chris and Maria actually introduced us to one another at the TOC summer seminar in 1999—after Kathy introduced them to one another at the 1996 seminar—so this promises to be a very fun weekend!

I don’t expect to be blogging until we return. However, in the interim I recommend checking out the new singer-songwriter John Mayer, whose music I just discovered a few days ago.

His lyrics and melodies are spot-on, and he’s great with an acoustic guitar, too. I particularly recommend visiting the movies and multimedia sections of his site. (I was definitely caught off-guard by the hand-holding scene in his home video, which I soon realized was fully intended.)

It seems like most of his songs are excellent, but I’ve been particularly impressed by the first four songs on his Room for Squares CD: “No Such Thing,” “Why Georgia,” “My Stupid Mouth,” and “Your Body is a Wonderland.”

The latter spent quite a few weeks on the Billboard chart last year, but I had never heard of the song, or of Mayer, until I joined pressplay.com a few days ago (which is also worth checking out) and was browsing their billboard charts.

One Response to “Musician John Mayer”
  • I saw a short piece on Mayer a few months ago on a plane, and was thrilled with his integrity. In his interview, he said, “we’re living in a time when people don’t want to admit it when something is ~good~ any more. In music, if it feels right, it’s ~right~! At the end of the day, it all comes back to–” and then he started singing Huey Louis’ “If This is It,” with a hell of a lot of enthusiasm! It’s nice to see a new adult in the pop music world. This guy’s got ~character~.
