I’m about to go bonkers with all the MIME-encoded e-mails that I receive. Outlook and AOL now send in MIME by default, so it’s becoming more and more ubiquitous.
Because of my poor eyesight, I’ve configured Eudora to show incoming messages in a large-point Times New Roman, for ease-of reading. MIME-encoded messages override these settings, however, and typically show the message in a smaller Arial font that I have to squint to read. …And then there’s all that mess when I try to reply.
Naturally, nobody who uses AOL knows how to turn off the MIME-encoding. And when they call AOL’s technical support, they are authoritatively told that “AOL sends in plain text by default.” (Eyes rolled…)
What’s a guy to do? I know that some mailing list software (e.g., mailman) will strip away the MIME content on messages sent to a mailing list. Is there any equivalent for individual users? I’d love to find a way to clean up the incoming messages arriving in my POP account.
I called my hosting agency, but they weren’t any help. …Frankly, I’d be willing to switch to a different hosting agency to fix this problem!
